What is YWAM?

Ywam LogoYWAM - Youth With a Mission

In September, we will be heading to YWAM Kona (located on the University of Nations campus). We will be doing what YWAMers call a DTS or Discipleship Training School which includes 3 months of classroom speakers and teachers and 3 months of outreach. Our DTS is called Community Transformations.

YWAM’s main goal is summed up on their website:

Our mission

In response to Jesus’ command to go into the world and make disciples (Matt.22:37-38;28:18-20) and the need for biblical transformation of peoples and nations, the U of N Kona is called to train servant leaders in the seven spheres of society (religion, family, education, government, media,arts/entertainment and business/science).

We are committed to teaching, works of evangelism and mercy ministries. We want to see this campus become a hub for both new and existing ministries, and to see our facilities filled with people passionate for reaching the lost and the needy, both here in Hawaii and into the nations of the world.

Our vision

To send out thousands of men and women who value God’s love for all people, who have vision and passion for discipling nations, who are equipped with essential skills, and who demonstrate His ways in service throughout society.

YWAM has bases all over the world! An important thing to remember is no one is paid at YWAM from the founder, Loren Cunningham to the staffers. It is all done through partnerships with friends and family.

Community Transformations

Discipleship Training School (DTS)

Just as it sounds the Community Transformations DTS takes advantage of the amazing power that Jesus has to transform communities if you just follow Him. We receive training in a classroom setting for 3 months and then go on an outreach for 3 months.

Community TransformationNot your typical education

The Community Transformation DTS educates and encourages while helping its students get to know God more intimately. The teachers, classes, speakers and local outreaches will constantly challenge us to go out on faith and trust God to lead us where He wants us to go. Classroom speakers include authors, missionaries and visionaries, that all have one trait in common—a love for Jesus and a passion to share about Him. They come to ignite a contagious fire to share about Jesus.

Seeking God and Reaching Out

After 12 weeks on campus, where God molds us and prepares us, we go out to the nation we feel God is leading us and share the contagious fire that is the message of God’s Love! The choice of nations/cities that we will pray about and then travel to include:

  • Amsterdam
  • Israel
  • Sweden
  • South Africa
  • Boulder, Colorado
  • NYC, New York
