Jesus is Lord! (Jesus är Herre)
We had the privilege to tag along with a church that does a Jesus Bus ministry. Linköping, Sweden, is a college town and so many of the youth go to a strip of bars in the town center to hang out with friends. The Jesus Bus has been coming to the town square for quite awhile. It is well known in the town for serving warm Glogg and coffee with a hot pastry on Saturday nights from around 10PM to 2AM. It gives the group a chance to strike up conversations with students and people from town. Many times it results in prayer and ministering to these people.

I was so encouraged to see the healthy way the group goes about “evangelizing”. It is set up in almost the same way as our community outreaches in Kona. We had a time of prayer asking for the power of the Holy Spirit and for him to use us as the vehicle to do His work. We then go out and meet new friends. After, we meet back at the church and debrief what happened and pray again for friends we met that night.
I was also surprised at the openness of some of the swedish people to talk about their faith. Many Swedish know english so it was nice not to have a translator. We had a small turnout of people because of the cold weather (probably below freezing), but a few people had strong moves toward Christ or were strengthened in their faith from conversations with us all.
A interesting note is that many Swedes consider their baptism at birth their salvation. Many Swedes are baptized as infants and confirmed in their teens. It is more out of tradition (and for the gifts I’ve heard) than any real heart motive. So if you ask if they are a Christian and they say yes, it is a good idea to ask them about their faith. These are all generalizations of course, but it is good to know about them regardless.
