Sorry for the title. I actually don’t have a snack to feed you physically. What I do have is a snack that can fill you spiritually—well actually God does.
Ok as I read Psalms 107, something went off in my head (most likely the Holy Spirit), saying, “you need to study this hunger and thirst thing”. So I did and was blown away meditating on the topic. Check this out:
“They were hungry and thirsty;
Their soul fainted within them.
6Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble;
He delivered them out of their distresses.
7He led them also by a straight way,
To go to an inhabited city.
8Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness,
And for His wonders to the sons of men!
9For He has satisfied the thirsty soul,
And the hungry soul He has filled with what is good.”Psalms 107:5-9
I started wondering why 2 things? Why hunger and thirst? Are there two ways in which God satisfies us? Here are my thoughts on the two:
THIRST
HUNGER
Here’s what I’m thinking. The thirst nourishment of God is as we seek Him, He refreshes our soul from the inside out. The hunger fills the emptiness of our soul with nourishment. Hunger could represent reading the word, while thirst is quenched with the Spirit of revelation. They work together as they are many times paired in statements (another mentioning is by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount, Matt 5:6). Also, as you read through the Word, there are many symbols used with food and drink: FRUITS of the spirit, water into wine. I think there are many hidden treasures and revelation in these food references. I love it, because it really is the example of the depths of the Word. These are just my thoughts and ponderings as I begin to study to topic of hunger and thirst and are meant to help others who are curious on the topic.
Jesus quench our thirst and fill our soul with Your food. Show us what it means to taste of Your goodness. Amen.
