Last week, we were in class and our speaker, Corey Martin, started talking about relationship and community and how God views them. We talked about the Trinity and how the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are always working together since the beginning of time. In scripture, Jesus talks about only doing what he sees the Father doing. The Spirit reveals the Father and the Son. The Father entrusts things to Jesus and when you ask things in Jesus name, He will do it to glorify God. A good chapter on the Trinity relationship is John 14. You get the picture that They are always working together and loving each other.
Very spontaneously, my class started to stand up and uplift our brothers and sisters. Not things like “I really like your hair” but by speaking life and encouragement to them. It was amazing! The whole teaching was stopped so we could stop and uplift all the people we had encouragement for. There was hugging, crying, and heart felt moments with everyone in the class! I felt the spirit of the Lord upon us all. I felt like that moment is how true community feels—freedom and love. The movement to encourage even continued after class and throughout the day.
Community is such an important principle in life. One of the big things people struggle with is loneliness. I think its because we were made for community. Community with others and with God. Its in our DNA that God created. God is always in community with Jesus and the Holy Spirit. The devil knows that true community leads to life and really targets church and family. When christians are most powerful is when we are living in true community, loving each other, loving God, lifting each other up and living for each other. People are so attracted to it. Lets strive towards it in a practical way—by uplifting our neighbor!
As I look back I realized we were prophesying to each other. Wait a minute…prophesying? So many times, I think we think of prophesy as talking about the future and the really “spiritual” side of it, which is awesome too, but check out this verse from 1 Corinthians 14:
1Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy. 2For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit. 3But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort. 4He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.
I’ve realized that when I prophesy to my brothers and sisters, I am calling out who they are in Christ and having faith that God will bring them to their fullness. When I am prophesied over, I am encouraged and strengthened and it confirms who I’m working to be—who I was made to be. By prophesying to our brothers and sisters, we are partnering with Christ in what He is doing in them.

Amen, brother! This spoke to me so much. I have been feeling this lately about us being made for community.
