What is our motivation behind our actions? There are many motivations for what we do: greed, power, lust, and hate, but I am finding out that the most important and most lasting actions are done out of love. I am convinced more and more that love is the most powerful force in this world. It makes even more sense when we read that God is love (1 John 4:8).
The other motivations fail in comparison to actions done out of love. I’ve heard of so many stories of one person’s hate being overwhelmed by love. Why is it? We weren’t made to hate, we weren’t made to seek power, we weren’t made to be motivated by greed, we were made to love and made out of love. Our creator made us just to love us. I think we all have something inside of us that wants to echo what our creator has done for us. We want to love and we want to be loved. All the other motivations greed, power, lust, hate were all created by humans (with the help of satan most likely) but love was created by God. When we use love it’s going to overwhelm the other motivations, because its supernatural.
How do we act in love? 1 Corinthians 13 gives a good description combine that with the best model of love, our Heavenly Father.
One example: Love is patient. God being omniscient knew before creation what was going to happen in the garden of Eden. He knew he would have to send His Son to die for us. He knew we would be separated from his presence, yet he created us because He knows how the story ends and is willing to wait! Thank you LORD for being a God of love!
What do we do in response to His love? Love back. Actively seek his Love. Obey Him. Love your neighbor. Love your enemy. Forgive. It’ll change the world.
