I was skyping with good friends Gary & Anna Brndiar and they thought it’d be cool to post notes on some of the training we have been getting after hearing a few of the points. Jeremy West has been training staff about discipleship on base and off, tips for outreach, etc. He has such a wealth of wisdom and knowledge on the subject. Camille and I are try
We have returned from our “retreat” advance to Makapala for DTS staff bonding and to receive from God his plans for the school. Basically, we took 3 days and offered them up to God to do what he wills for us as a group and school. We knew one thing: God would meet and speak to us as He always does. His faithfulness is awe-inspiring.
Now begins our 2nd session with Youth with a Mission. To catch you up, we’re heading back out to the YWAM Kona, HI base to staff the Summer Discipleship Training School (DTS) of youth hungry for God! If you want
We are heading back to YWAM! We will be staffing the Classic Discipleship Training School (DTS) in Kona starting in July 2010.
What is staffing?
We will help lead the school as well as lead a team to a yet-to-be-decided location. Staffing seems like an amazing opportunity to view the Discipleship Training School from a different perspective. Instead of receiving teachings and discipleship, we will have an opportunity to pour into others. I’m sure we will
We made it to Finland on my birthday, the fourth. It was a crazy ferry ride from Stockholm to Helsinki because of the icy waters of the Baltic Sea. We heard another boat got stuck for a whole day this winter because the ice froze so quickly. We were on the bottom floor next to where the ice chunks hit the side of the boat. Surprisingly we were able to sleep even with the constant clunking of ice passing by. It was windy too so the boat gently rocked, which might have helped us sleep! We arrived in Helsinki only 30 minutes late.
We immediately noticed a change in the look of the people. In my opinion, the Finnish look
Outreach is almost half over, which is definitely a crazy thing to think about. We have less than a week in Malmo and then we head to Helsinki, Finland for the remainder of our trip. During this time, I’ve realized that outreach is not separate from lecture phase of a DTS. I’ve felt like I am growing and learning more about God even on outreach. Outreach hasn’t just been telling the lost and broken about Jesus, but a continuation of what God is doing in me. When I think about it, it shouldn’t be a surprise because God is continually pursuing our hearts to bring us closer to Him whether it be in a DTS or in life. I’m finding that outreach is showing me how to live a lifestyle of seeking God. I’ve learned we don’t have to be on-call christians just finding people with the purpose of converting them. We are meeting new friends-on buses, at
What is our motivation behind our actions? There are many motivations for what we do: greed, power, lust, and hate, but I am finding out that the most important and most lasting actions are done out of love. I am convinced more and more that love is the most powerful force in this world. It makes even more sense when we read that God is love (1 John 4:8).
The other motivations fail in comparison to actions done out of love. I’ve heard of so many stories of one person’s hate being overwhelmed by love. Why is it? We weren’t made to hate, we weren’t made to seek power, we weren’t made to be motivated by greed, we were made to love and
