A genealogy that will blow your mind!

Taylor Speaking Truth

Hey from Kona! This is Camille, by the way…So today was an amazing day in class. We had a couple of different speakers from the YWAM base come in and talk to our class. The first was Taylor (I don’t remember his last name). One of the coolest things he showed us was actually from the beginning of scripture, from Genesis chapter 5. You know how they talk about from adam who had a son seth who lived this long who had a son who lived this long etc..blah blah blah, I would usually skip over it wondering why it’s even in the bible? Well today I found out something pretty cool. They are actually given these names from there parents who ask God what to name them. They don’t just choose these names because they sound cool or they go good with their last name or whatever. I found out what the names of these men actually mean in Hebrew, and the revelation is crazy. Okay so I’m just going to lay it out for you like this, the way it appears in the bible: (name-Hebrew meaning)

Adam-man

Seth-appointed

Enosh-mortal

Kenan-sorrow

Mahalalel-blessed of

Jared-shall come down

Enoch-teaching

Methuzala-his death shall bring

Lamech-the despairing

Noah-rest & comfort

So Adam, the man appointed mortal sorrow by eating of the tree of good and evil. Blessed (the messiah) will come down teaching and his death shall bring us (the despairing) rest and comfort! Whoa! Crazyyy! God totally laid everything out in Genesis. Cool side note:

So when Methuzala was on the earth his name meant “his death shall bring” and when he died the flood came. So when he was living people were probably wondering what would his death bring? At the same time Noah was building the ark. No one put two and two together even though Noah was warning everybody. When Methuzala died, that is when God flooded the earth. Let’s just say, this for sure blew my mind! I won’t be skipping over genealogies anymore. I might just have to get a Hebrew dictionary!
