Curly-haired baby in stroller, pier, ABC Store, fish, drum, and an “ankle injury”

treasure-hunts

Every Tuesday, We’ve been going on treasure hunts of a different kind. What we do is pray that God will lead us to people in need of prayer and write down descriptive words that pop into our mind. This week Camille and I, Jelle (from Denmark) and Adam (from Kentucky) got quite a few random words including ABC Store (local convenience store),  Curly-haired baby in stroller, ankle injury, pier (Kona’s pier), fish and drum. We headed to downtown Kona looking for people we can talk to, pray with and talk about Jesus to.

As we were walking, we saw this girl with tape on her ankle and since “ankle injury” was the word I got, I was going to pray for her. I was kind of chickening out and told Camille, I’m meant to pray for her if they start walking back toward us. Just then they did! So I went up to the group and the girl and said,”Hey can I pray for your ankle injury.” She looked at me and said,”Its a tattoo bandage”…whoops! So we ended up talking with them and laughing and prayed that her tattoo would heal and not get any infections. We learned it was her 5th Ironman competition and she was only 24!

We kept walking towards the pier stopping at the ABC stores looking for people that matched our treasure hunt requirements or had visible ailments. We didn’t find anyone and finally reached the pier.

Just then, we heard some loud drums from a nearby party and Adam reminded us we got the word drums. Then we put two and two together and realized people were fishing here at the pier. We thought this was the place that God was leading us to! We approached 2 ladies and started chatting. One of our new friends, Poni, used to be a morman, but didn’t really practice it. Camille was talking with her as she was fishing and she allowed Camille to pray with her and Camille layed out the full gospel of Jesus and prayed that she would catch a fish. Poni thanked Camille for the prayers and just a few minutes later caught a fish! In the meantime, Adam, Jelle and I were chatting with the other girl who told us she had died 12 times in her life and was telling us all these crazy stories of how her grandmother and mother prayed for her each time.

As we were getting ready to head back to discuss where the Lord had lead us, we saw a family come onto the pier and they had a curly-haired baby in a stroller! On the handle of the stroller was an ABC Store bag. So we struck up a conversation with them and prayed with their daughter (they agreed to the prayer if we only spoke a Christian prayer—easy enough!!). We showed the parents our papers with the words and the parents agreed, it must have been a divine meeting. It was an amazing set up.

Thank you Lord for speaking to us that we may tell others about Your great love and the gospel of Jesus!
