We met to have a Sunday night worship session featuring Fire and Fragrance the DTS focused on worship and intercession on campus. After some worship music and prayer, Andy said he felt like the Lord wanted to say a few things to specific individuals in class. I sat there thinking this is going to be interesting to see who he calls out. The first words out of his mouth:
“Is there a Calvin in the room?”
I was in shock! I stood up and confirmed I was Calvin and Andy began to prophesy over me. I didn’t catch a lot of it due to my shock, but luckily some classmates were jotting notes for me. He called out a few others and gave prophesies to them as well, which was equally amazing. After that, we went into a time of worship and the room was filled with the glory of God. Once it hit, I couldn’t stop laughing, other people started to cry, some were silent and not used to this type of worship (not that it wasn’t new to me!), and others hit the floor after someone was praying with them. One thing was certain, God’s glory filled the room. It seems so weird that the glory of God can make people react in such unique ways, but why not? I think we sometimes have set requirements for how God will show himself (eg. through confirmation, voice in our head). We shouldn’t box God up into a product of the Church. The Church should be responding to how God is moving. It also is important to note we should seek what God is doing through these times when God’s glory fills the room. He is obviously stirring us up individually and corporately to step into our true identity as children of God.
It’s been about 4 weeks since that night, but it really set the stage for me and my time here at YWAM. That night, I had the revelation that the God that created me also wanted to have a relationship with me (and you)…and a not-so-silent one on his part. He loves us! He wants us to talk to Him and also for us to listen to Him. Remove the thoughts that He is a God that sits on high and condemns, because he is a God of Love! In fact, He is the definition and creator of love. He is constantly wooing the hearts of his people (the world). The lost, weary, and broken are missing something in their hearts always trying to fill it by worshiping the things of this world-money, sex, drugs. True contentment comes when the Creator is reunited with his creation through his Son, Jesus.
Prophesy is often looked upon with skeptic eyes, as it was for me in the past. Its one of those touchy areas. Many people are worried from bad incidents in the past, for example, with TV evangelists. After 4 prophesies from 4 different non-related individuals that featured the same theme and wording, its hard not to believe its real. Also, before a thought of going to YWAM was in our mind, we had someone prophesy about how we would go to the nations and affect the youth…kind of a coincidence we are at University of the Nations – Youth with a Mission. It makes me conclude that prophesy, when done with the right spirit of encouragement, love and edification and out of obedience to God and guidance of the Holy Spirit, is indeed as real as it is in the Bible. Thank you Lord for this gift. It encourages us to fellowship with each other in love and share in what God has for us.

Crystal, That is so awesome you guys are doing Fire and Fragrance. The DTS really has created a movement across this campus of prayer and worship which is such an important part of missions. We need to stay on fire when we go into the “real” world. Without prayer or worship, it is hard to keep that fire. Intercessory prayer is also so integral in missions! I’m so excited for you two to come and rock this campus and run after Jesus!
