Soar like Eagles

This week we had Jamie Smith come and visit us from The Outerbanks, North Carolina. His most impacting day for me was when he told us about his in-depth study of Eagles following this verse Isaiah 40:28-31:

28 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.

29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.

30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;

31 but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

The promise is this: if you put your faith in the LORD you will soar on wings like eagles. This got Jamie thinking so he did the study on eagles and came up with these awesome facts. While you read these, think about the correlation to life. It blew my mind. This is what we are called to when we put our faith in the LORD:

How high can an eagle soar? 10,000 ft!

Eagles aren’t afraid of storms. They thrive in them! They use updrafts to soar to the 10,000 ft mark above the storm. They don’t use their own strength to soar, they have another source. Eagles use discernment to find the updrafts that are invisible in the air.

We shouldn’t be afraid of storms in our lives but thrive in them because we know that Jesus is alive and will protect us and give us strength. We get our strength from Him. We also need to practice discernment on what lifts us to higher places—we need to find those updrafts!

Eagles strength is in their diet. They eat fresh fish and other animals. They don’t eat dead things but if eagles eat something that is dead they will rise on the updrafts/thermal currents and go to the highest rock spread wings and lay there as the light from the sun draws out the poison that was in the dead animal they ate.

We fill ourselves with the Living Word and nothing that brings death. If we have something that brings death in our lives, we need to soak in the presence of the Light. We need to position ourselves to receive His love that draws out fear and death.

Exodus 19:4
4
‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself.

There’s a point where baby eagles need to fly. Some babies don’t want to leave the nest. The ones that do try to fly and some fail so they free fall. The father eagle is soaring above the babies, eyes fixed on them as they are trying to fly. If he sees them failing, he swoops down at 200mph and saves the baby in the nick of time!

We shouldn’t be afraid of trying and failing because the Father is there even when we fail. He is always above looking down on us like a caring Father ready to save his children and place them back in the nest to try again.

You are an eagle so SOAR!
